Technically, A Familiar Fate is a late Middle Grade or early Young Adult novel (the protagonist age determines the classification, and Stance is 13), but it was written for readers of all ages. Below you will find an ever-growing collection of reader comments. A big thank you to all those who have contributed a comment! If you would like to include your thoughts, send me an email.

"I love to read and especially enjoy books that I can recommend to my 11-year-old daughter. A Familiar Fate was great on both counts. I loved the fast pace, travel and description of different places, and the idea of being able to breathe underwater. Oh, and who wouldn't love to have a familiar protecting you at all times?"

"I loved A Familiar Fate. This story was filled with adventures and lots of cool family dynamics. I think teenagers will be swept away by this suspenseful tale. Even parents and grandparents will be drawn into it."

"I enjoyed reading A Familiar Fate. Not expecting too much from the get go, the book really hooked me early and often. Being a resident on the North Shore and understanding the landscape allowed me to envision many of the exciting scenes throughout the book.  What’s nice about the book is that you can be anywhere from 13 to 103 yrs old and the read is very enjoyable. I highly recommend this book to those looking for a feel good story that has a twist."

"I really think you should read it, especially if you have a pre-teen or teen who likes/ed books like the Rick Riordan series or Hunger Games. It a book about a thirteen year old girl who is gifted a stone necklace that changes the course of her life. It's magical realism, suspense, secret societies, dream-time-travel. It's gripping. You should read it because it's great, but you should also read it to help promote an aspiring author with talent."

"The story grabbed me from the start and drew me in with every paged I turned. My wife and my friend’s 13 year old daughter are now reading the book. The writing flows effortlessly and remains exciting for all ages. The story evokes magic that is carefully constructed so the reader can easily believe how the characters can use their magic while not disrupting the common world around them. When the special powers do crash into the normal world, the story handles it with appropriate confusion, disbelief and resolution that maintains the validity of the magic. AFF is a very thoughtful, creative and exciting story – I can’t wait for the sequel."
